21st January 2017: Selangor Fa vs Melaka United

Melaka United kicked of the their 2017 Malaysian Super League campaign against Selangor FA. Head coach, Eric Willams started with an attacking lineup that consist of Spasojević, Aguero and Amri Yahyah. New signing goalkeeper Badrul started his first competitive match for the team. South Korean import, Woo Young was on the bench.

 

Melaka United controlled the first 20 minutes of the match with countless assault towards the Selangor penalty box. The closest attempt was Khuzaimi’s 14th minute free kick that was saved by Selangor’s goalkeeper, Norazlan Razali. Puaneswaran became the savior of the team when he cleared off the line from Forkey Doe’s attempt.

 

The second half started with another domination of possession by the away team. On the 68th minute, Khairu Azrin finally broke the deadlock with a well taken shot from outside the box beating Norazlan Razali for his first goal of the season. New import signing, Woo Young almost scored in the 76th minutes but his point blank shot was saved by the goalkeeper. In the 80th minutes, Victor Stelian saved the home team from blushes as he headed in the equalizer through a well taken corner beating Badrul. A good start by Melaka United as they’ve totally dominated possession throughout the match. Melaka United will play in a closed door stadium against Perak FA who was penalized due to crowd problems last year.
