Amri Yahyah’s winner sealed Melaka United’s progress to the 3rd round of the Malaysian FA Cup tie by defeating the 2016 FA Cup finalist PKNS FC.

After suffering a defeat at Hang Jebat Stadium last week against T-Team, Melaka United started aggressively and almost scored a goal after Amri lobbed past PKNS goalkeeper Zamir Selamat but it was ruled offside in the 21st minute. Khairu Azrin’s long ranged shot hit the upright in the 29th minutes. In the last 5 minutes before halftime, PKNS doubled their attack but Melaka United’s second choice goalkeeper Fadzli Paat saved Mathias Hadwa’s stiff shot to make it a 0-0.

Jeon Woo Young who occasionally played as the second striker role in this match almost scored his 3rd goal in 3 matches but his shot hit the woodwork in the 55th minutes. Melaka United kept on making quick passes with Khairu Azrin as the playmaker controlling the midfield. Amri Yahyah opened his Melaka United account in the 65th minute by cutting into the right and unleashed a grounder beating Zamir Selamat.

PKNS kept on pressing but the combination of Melaka United’s Godwin and Faizal kept Patrick Ronaldinho at bay with Ahmed Ezrie protecting the back four made Lucas Espindola and Safee Sali ineffective. Khair Jones constantly made overlapping runs to kept the pressure of the Melaka United’s defence. Melaka United will travel to Sarawak this Saturday for the Malaysian Super League clash before flying to Kelantan for the canceled match last month due to heavy rain.
