Jeon Woo Young proved to be the deciding factor as he secured a valuable point for Melaka United at the Hang Jebat Stadium against the high flying JDT with a 1-1 scoreline. A change in the personel at the heart of defence where center back Syawal was selected in the first eleven ahead of Faizal Muhammad. Puaneswaran was given the captaincy from Amri who was left out due to the gentleman agreement with JDT.
JDT dominated the first half and Gabby Guerra’s free kick was saved by Fazli Paat in the 22nd minutes. Jeon also drew first blood for Melaka United but JDT’s goalkeeper Izham Tarmizi was there to disappoint the South Korean with a wonderful save. It ended 0-0 in the first half.
Second half started with the same tempo with JDT pressing the Melaka United’s defence but Godwin and Syawal combination did well to clear their lines to stop Gabby and Hazwan Bakiri marauding runs. Safiq Rahim again found his way into the Melaka United’s net with a sublime free kick in the 58th minutes to deceive the on form Fazli Paat. Eric Williams decided to go all out as he put in the lanky Izzaq Faris to boost the attack alongside Spasojević and Aguero in the last 10 minutes. The tactic worked as Izzaq won the ariel duel to assist Jeon’s in scoring his fourth goal for Melaka United on 87th minutes.
Melaka United are now in 9th position from the result and will face Felda United at Jengka on 24th of May before the league is on break for a month. An uplifting result for the Mousedeers.
